This is My Story

Dear listeners

1683am The Hellenic Radio Station of Australia
was established sometime between 1970 and 1980
it started operating legally on the 15th of March 1983,
through the community radio station 2 NBC STEREO FM,
as a Hellenic program.
After a short period of time,
we employed and used the sub carrier 67 KHz.
This system was used for a few years,
as a 24 hour Hellenic Radio Station of Australia.
then we employed again the new release,
by the Australian Communication Authority,
HI-BAND FM 150 to 170 MHz.
With this system, we were broadcasting through satellites
and local owned radio transmitters,
to 85% of Australian region from Sydney's studios
in other words, to the most capital cities of Australia.

Since 1996, we also started transmitting on frequency
1,683 KHz MW Sydney.
We now hold the license to broadcast across Australia.
At the present
we hope you enjoy listening to our programs
through our website 1683amgreekradio.com
and through our own radio studios in Sydney
on the frequencies MW 1,683Khz AM
day and night 24/7.

Melina and the Marbles

I'll be born again ... "

“... you have to understand what the Parthenon Marbles mean to us. It's our pride. They are our sacrifices. It is the supreme symbol of courtesy. It is a tribute to democratic philosophy. It is our ambition and our name. It is the essence of our Greekness… ”,

June 20, 2009 is a historic day for Athens. The new Acropolis Museum is Inaugurated. Greece feels that the British Museum's argument is being rejected. Whatever, it may say "loudly", the demand for reunification, the return of the Marbles.
It's one day emotionally charged. European Commission President Jose Barroso, Unesco CEO Koisiro Matsuura, presidents and prime ministers from Cyprus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Serbia, Slovakia, Finland, Montenegro, Vietnam and China, as well as 21 ministers of culture from around the world, including Greek political and state leadership. Antonis Samaras, Minister of Culture at the Costas Karamanlis Government, in a symbolic move spread around the world, places a piece of marble returned from the Vatican Museum in the Metropolis of the Parthenon. The New Museum talks to the Parthenon. The visitor can easily understand which marble members are from Lord Elgin and are in the British Museum, as they are authentically exhibited with plaster casts (dated 1846) to make one of the greatest thefts in history quite obvious.

The myth of the infamous 'firman'
Elgin never secured a "firman" (Sultan's written order). The only document at his disposal that he uses artfully is a friendly letter from Kaimakam, the Turkish official who, at that time, was replacing the Grand Vizier in Constantinople.

Elgin's workshops were undisturbed in the Acropolis during the period 1801-1804. The "action" method of removing the sculptures from the monument is traumatic. The methods are primitive, so are the tools. However, this was just the first part of the abuse. The second part begins with the loading and transportation of antiquities to England, a voyage to various ports and losses - one of the ships sinking. The last act of drama is now being played in Great Britain.
Stacked in warehouses, the Parthenon Sculptures "change hands". Realizing that he has lost his fortune (so much expense ...), Elgin begins to mortgage and then decides to sell the Parthenon Sculptures to the British Government, which buys them back in 1816, and transfers them to the British Museum.

Fourteen English Members, including former Minister and Speaker of the House of Commons Culture Tony Banks, have asked the English Government in 2002 to return the Marbles.
Well-known actors such as Vanessa Redgrave, Day Judy Dents, Joanna Lamley and Sir Sean Connery have participated in the Crusade for the Return of the Marbles.
Last in the parade of these important names is George Clooney and his co-star in the movie Monument Men, Bill Murray.
